Another Book Done

I'm not one to set new year's resolutions. I never see the point in making a goal that I'm probably not going to keep and then feel more down about myself. This year, however, I decided to make one. I decided that I would make a goal to read 1 book a month. I know that 1 book a month is not much at all, but it seemed like a reasonable goal that I could keep with teaching and all. I'm happy to say that I've kept my goal and just finished my 8th book. I'm actually ahead of the game! The book I just finished reading is "Teach Like your Hair's on Fire" by Rafe Esquith. It is an informative book about methods of teaching from this teacher who teaches in L.A.,
California. If you teach 5th grade or higher, I would highly recommend this book. The author is a 5th grade teacher, so some of his ideas are too advanced for my students. I learned that I could adapt some of them though. I, being a teacher am always trying to think of ways I could better myself and my classroom. Through reading this book, I was able to open my eyes to new ideas. It was a slow read, but that was partly my doing. I wanted to be sure to get everything I could out of it and reread some pages. Overall, I feel that I learned a lot of new things. If you're a teacher or going into teaching, I would recommend this book. Now, I'm starting to read "Where the Red Fern Grows." I never read this book as a child and always wanted to. My mom has told me that I should be prepared to cry, we'll see what happens. Happy reading!
