Sand Dunes and Ice Caves

A few weekends ago, we went to the sand dunes with my cousin Heidi and her husband Alan. Richard had never been there before. He thought it was pretty cool. We walked around a bit and touched the sand. Richard collected some sand for an aloe vera plant he is trying to grow. After that, we head up the ice caves. We had all heard they were pretty awesome to hike, so we thought we'd give it a try. Well, a "try" is all we got. As we made our way to the entrance of the cave, it was flooded with water. We would have to trudge on our hands and knees through dirty, ice cold water (no thank you!) I willingly said "No" when I saw a dead mouse in the water and some squirrels that were dead laying outside the water. (Thankfully, I kept my cool though). Heidi, being 5 months pregnant wasn't too keen on climbing through a cave on her hands and knees, but Alan and Richard were determined, placing rocks all along the water path so that we could walk on them. The only problem was the top of the cave started to lower to the point that we would be forced to crawl on our hands and knees. The boys, finally realizing we didn't dress right to get soaking wet and then to climb through ice cold caves thought it best that we not hike. After much dilemma, we decided to go have our bon fire at the sand dunes and hike the caves when they really are iced over. Overall, it was a grand adventure!
